Under the chairmanship of HE Abdul Aziz Al Ghurair \u2013 Chairman of the Council \u2013 and in the attendance of HE Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Public Works, HE Saqr Ghobash, Minister of Labour and HE Obaid Humaid Al Tayer, Minister of State for Financial Affairs, the Federal National Council approved on Tuesday 15 December 2010 a draft federal law on land transport and roads.
\nThis session witnessed the attendance of HE Dr. Nasser Seif Al Mansoori, Director General of National Transport Authority, H.E. Salem Al Zaabi, Executive Director of the Maritime Sector and Counselor, H.E. Engineer Abdullah Al Kathiri \u2013 NTA Executive Director of Land Transport Sector and Fahmi Omar Mokhair Director of Legal Affairs from the National Transport Authority.
\nThe Federal National Council Approved a draft federal law concerning the land transport and roads. The secretary of the Islamic Affairs Committee, Awqaf and Public Utilities at the Federal National Council \u2013 which studied the draft law and prepared a report about the amendments and suggestions \u2013 mentioned that the objective of the project is represented in setting the rules and general terms which regulate the land transport and its work nationally and internationally; providing security and safety in the field of transport as well as contributing in decreasing the range of traffic accidents through integrating the means of transportation; and maintaining the roads infrastructure.
\nThe draft law consists of six sections mentioned in 40 clauses, and the clauses 29 till 34 stipulate the penalties imposed in case of breaching the provisions of the draft law.
\nHE Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan clarified that the law is related to the land transport, as there are 2500 trucks enter UAE daily; and there are other laws for the air transport and a law for the maritime transport and trains. There is no need to consolidate them. Concerning the weights, this matter is presented 8 years ago. There are some stations of the road to apply the system of weights, but this issue requires more coordination with the local authorities all over the United Arab Emirates.
